During the pandemic lockdown, people were anxious and started finding new hobbies to fill their times at home. Some were learning recipes from Youtube and started cooking, some baked and sold cakes to their friends, and some painted. There were people who cleaned up their room and re-decorate it, including painting their walls. While staying safe in the house and learning to be independent doing things on your own, there are still a lot of problems that you will have to learn and fix it by yourself. By painting the walls on your own, you will face some common paint problems, let’s go through some of the problems.

One of the common paint problems is clumping. Clumping is like vein-like lines that you can see on one coat of paint and these cracks can develop and change into this dry and jagged flakes. The ugliness can be seen on surfaces, indoors and out, from plaster to wood and siding. This problem can happen when there is an insufficient surface prep. Over-thinning it and putting it too thinly can surely make this obvious and ugly. What you can do to fix this is to remove all cracked and flaking paint with any paint remover tools you have. Use sand papers to blend edges, and then clean and prime the surface. There are some best thickening agents in Malaysia you can find and mix it up with your paint. You can repaint the problem spots, try to reload the brush and roller properly to avoid the same problem you were having. Alway remember to be patient and to let the paint fully dry between the coats.

The second common paint problem, is peeling. Peeling can be both problems on interior and exterior surface. Moisture is usually the biggest enemy compared to improper prep and application. The reason why this can happen because of the excessive moisture from high humidity in the house, it can be from the basement, or cooking or even zealous showering. While on the outside, peeling happens from inadequate caulking, clogged gutters and sometimes mostly interior moisture that got through exterior walls. What you can do is change your interior ventilation into a better version such as exhaust fans, wall vents, or louvers. While on the outside, you can remove painting by peeling, sanding, blending and priming before painting. You can also add some thickening agent in your paint before you paint the walls.

Bubbling can be your most annoying common problems when it comes to painting the walls. Noone likes that unremoved bubbly shaped on the walls and it dries. You can still see this happening on drywall, plaster, metal and wood. Usually it is because of heat and moisture, intense sunlight can trigger the bubbles to appear on exterior surface. While on interior, the moisture can pass through from another room or bathroom, will leave these bubbles to set on your walls. Basically how you repair and prevent this from happening is you burst a few bubbles and check the backside of bubbled paint, as well as the substance if it becomes exposed, just to determine if moisture or the heat is the problem.

With these common paint problems and few solutions, everyone can be able to do this on their own without the help from anyone else. Be sure to constantly read the tips and tricks to avoid unnecessary problems and be confident, because you would not want to do this multiple times as it will get annoying and tiring. Regardless, all these problems, make sure to enjoy your time being creative and independent.
